Frick Art and Historical Center
Looking at Henry Frick's house "Clayton"
Frick Art and History Center WebsiteFrick Art and History Center EventsIf you want to find a place loaded with Pittsburgh history a visit to The Frick Art and History Center is right for you! On my recent visit I found many interesting, historical Pittsburgh treasures! Except for the tour of Henry Frick's home "Clayton", all the exhibits are free! There was plenty of free parking and finding the museum was very easy. I started my visit at their 10am opening time on a Sunday. |
My first stop during my visit was the art museum. A helpful attendant told me he was excited to be working at the Frick Art Museum and would be happy to answer any questions I had. In this building I found many works of art that were up hundreds of years old. They were amazing. Some of the informational plates on the art suggested they were up to 700 years old! My favorite display included a chair once owned by Marie Antoinnette! |

My next stop was the Car and Carriage Museum. There were two packed showrooms in this museum. One displayed the old horse drawn carriages and the other was loaded with cars nearly 100 years old! Two cars in particular caught my attention. I had never seen a Rolls Royce car in person before and the one on display was beautiful. Also, this was the first time I saw a Ford Model T Touring car! |
Next stop was the playhouse to pick up tickets for the guided Clayton tour. The playhouse was built for the Frick children. It included a bowling alley and even a dark room where Childs Frick could develop his pictures. The Clayton home was extraordinary! To me it was like walking through a castle. Every corner of the home was immaculate and beautiful. Absolutely loaded with stunning decorations and history! Guided tours started every 15 minutes and groups would meet the guide at the Playhouse and then walk over to the Clayton. |
